Quantitative Evaluation of Bioscaffold Cell Culture by Images from Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy
Prof J Sun, Dr K Black, Dr K Huang
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

Micro to nano scale three-dimensional (3D) bioscaffold is widely used in cell biology research and tissue engineering. Such bioscaffolds can closely resemble the architectural microenvironment of natural tissue, compared to standard two-dimensional cell culture, promote the varied levels of cell proliferation.
Mechanistic analysis of neurodevelopmental disorders caused by mutations in the gene RAC1
Dr T Millard, Dr S Banka
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

RAC1 is a signalling protein that regulates many cellular processes and is essential during embryonic development. We recently discovered a novel genetic disease called RAC1-related neurodevelopmental disorder (RRND) that results from mutations in the RAC1 gene.
Development of functionalised exosomes for personalised precision medicine in the treatment of cancer - a nanomedicine platform
  Research Group: Biomedical Research Group
  Dr P Dyer, Dr C O'Kane, Prof C Parris
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

Research Group. Biomedical Research Group. https://www.anglia.ac.uk/science-and-engineering/research/institutes-and-groups/biomedical.
Dynamic cell fate decisions: linking mechanical signals and protein expression dynamics in the developing eye to understand human developmental disorders
Dr Cerys Manning, Prof N Papalopulu
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

Inherited developmental disorders account for much of childhood visual impairment. Development of the eye requires cell fate decisions that balance stem cell proliferation and differentiation.
Epigenetic therapy using ultrasound-mediated microbubble drug delivery for cancer treatment
Dr E Valleley, Dr L Coletta
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

The project is an interdisciplinary, pre-clinical study that aims to investigate the response of human tumour cells to treatment with epigenetic inhibitors (such as DNA methyltransferase inhibitors), as a potential combination therapy for colorectal cancer (CRC).
  Investigating metabolic changes in neurodegeneration
Dr F Mackenzie, Dr M Stolinski
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

This 3-year PhD will study the increasingly recognised association between metabolic disease and neurodegeneration using in vitro cell culture methods.
Fully Funded Public Health England PhD Scholarship: Use of advanced multi-cellular models of the human respiratory system to investigate the mechanistic effects of particulate and gaseous air pollutants
  Dr M Clift
Application Deadline: 31 October 2019

Funding Type

PhD Type

This scholarship is funded by Public Health England (PHE). Start date. January 2020. Subject areas. In Vitro Systems; In Vivo Models; Cell Biology; Cell Culture; Toxicology; Air Pollution; Particulate; NO2.
Microtubule motors in cell migration and integrin trafficking
Prof V Allan, Prof P Woodman, Dr P Caswell
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

Cell migration is vital for the development and health of multicellular organisms. However, enhanced cell migration is also a hallmark of cancer cells, and contributes greatly to metastasis.
Role of the centrosome and cilia in development
  Dr C Wilkinson
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

My research interest lies in the roles of centrioles and associated proteins, as parts of the centrosome and cilium, in early vertebrate development, using zebrafish embryos as a model system.
Inhibitors and probes for carbohydrate-active enzymes
  Dr L Willems
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

The field of chemical biology aims to design and synthesize chemical tools (such as inhibitors, substrate mimics, or enzyme probes) to answer fundamental questions in biology.
