Chromosome Segregation in the Mammalian Germline
MRC Human Genetics Unit
Dr I Adams
18 January 2019
This is one of several projects available on an MRC funded 4-year multi-disciplinary PhD programme in Human Genetics, Genomics and Disease at the MRC Human Genetics Unit (HGU), part of the Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine (IGMM) at the University of Edinburgh.
Centromere inheritance in S. pombe and beyond
Dr L Subramanian
Applications accepted all year round
Accurate chromosome segregation relies on the stable inheritance of functional centromeres through generations. A key determinant of centromere function is the histone H3 variant CENP-A (Centromere Protein A), that epigenetically marks and specifies active centromeres.
Synthetic biology in unicellular green algea
Dr K Ríha
3 February 2019
Green picoalgae are important constituents of marine plankton and play important role in sea ecology and biogeochemical cycles. They represent some of the smallest eukaryotes with simple body organization and highly streamlined genomes.
