A genome-wide association study (GWAS) identifies the genetic variants associated with a trait, such as a disease. The comprehensive GWAS Central database (https://www.gwascentral.org) (Beck et al, 2014) collates published summary-level GWAS findings and standardises the trait descriptions by applying ontologies.
