REMS (Renewable Energy Marine Structures) View All CDTs Renewable Energy Marine Structures REMS (Renewable Energy Marine Structures) is an EPSRC funded centre to train fifty Engineering Doctorate (EngD) and PhD students over an eight-year period, admitting ten new students each year for five years started in October 2014.
Instability in peat: developing and undertaking new types of experiments to establish how peat fails in response to different types of external forcing
  Dr A P Dykes
Applications accepted all year round
Peat mass movements are relatively common geomorphological events in UK and Irish uplands. In recent years several significant peat landslides have been caused by engineering work, usually construction of access roads for onshore windfarm projects.
EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Future Infrastructure and Built Environment
The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Future Infrastructure and Built Environment (FIBE-CDT) in Cambridge University is currently looking to recruit talented students for a number of fully funded studentships to carry out cutting edge research within a broad range of both core and interdisciplinary civil engineering topics at the UK's top ranking Engineering Department.
CDT-SIS-492: Investigating the long-term response of geogrid-reinforced ballast under realistic loading conditions
Research Group: Sustainable Infrastructure Systems (SIS)
Dr M J Fernandes De Pinho Lopes, Prof W Powrie
Application Deadline: 14 December 2018
Railway transportation of both freight and people is key to reduce CO2 emissions significantly. There are several advantages of railway transportation; however, minimising track maintenance costs, and finding alternative materials and approaches to improve the performance of railway track is essential.
