Novel chemistry to protect the wheat crop
  Dr G Kettles
Application Deadline: 6 January 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

Plant pathogens pose major challenges to crop production and food security. How we protect plants from their most damaging pathogens is therefore vital to a future of sustainable agriculture.
Using live-cell imaging of the immune response to investigate host-pathogen interactions during infection.
  Prof R May
Application Deadline: 10 January 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

My group is interested in the molecular and cellular mechanisms that occur during host-pathogen interactions.
Chronic Wounds and Infection - impact on diabetic patients
Research Group: Centre for Skin Sciences
  Dr M J Thornton, Dr J N Fletcher
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

Non-healing chronic wounds present a significant clinical challenge. In Europe, the cost of wound management accounts for 2%–4% of the health care budget and the complications associated with impaired wound healing can have a significant, long-term effect on the morbidity, mortality, and quality of life for patients.
Live-imaging and genetic approaches to explore cross-talk between tissue damage, immune dysfunction and infection within novel animal models of cystic fibrosis
Dr H Weavers, Prof E Mahenthiralingam, Dr D N Sheppard
Application Deadline: 25 November 2019

Funding Type

PhD Type

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disorder driven by mutations in the CFTR (Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator) gene.
BBSRC EASTBIO PhD Programme: How is the activity of IL-33 controlled by the speed of its release, and how could this affect obesity?
Dr H McSorley, Prof S Arthur, Dr C Benezech
Application Deadline: 5 January 2020

Dr Y Feng, Dr L Schumacher
Application Deadline: 5 January 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

The mechanisms that modulate the pre-neoplastic stage of tumourigenesis in vivo are largely unknown due to the lack of suitable animal models.
