PhD Studentship in the Multi-Omic Analysis of Bladder Cancers
  Dr A Feber
Application Deadline: 31 January 2019
A 3 year funded position is available in the group of Dr Andrew Feber, in the Department of Targeted Intervention, Division of Surgery and Interventional Science.
Simulating Plankton Evolution with Adaptive Dynamics in a global ocean model (SPEAD)
  Dr P Cermeno
Applications accepted all year round
PhD offer in theoretical ecology -- eco-evolutionary dynamics of plankton. The PhD student will investigate the potential of adaptive evolution to affect the response of phytoplankton communities to a warmer and more stratified ocean due to climate change.
  Dynamical Redesign of Biomolecular Networks
  Dr E Rosta
Application Deadline: 26 March 2019
Project Description. We will develop novel theoretical frameworks [1] using machine learning approaches to address catalytic efficiency and to establish molecular design principles to key design problems for new bio-inspired nanocatalysts.
A comprehensively analysis of microorganisms and viruses from ancient samples using minion sequencing techniques
  Prof M Marz
Application Deadline: 31 January 2019
In current metagenomic samples we are able to assign only up to 10% of the microorganisms, most of them being bacteria. This number drops significantly when investigating additionally viruses in especially ancient samples.
A Volume and Mass Conserving Ocean Model for Climate Studies
  Dr M Morales Maqueda
Application Deadline: 31 January 2019
This project is part of the ONE Planet DTP. Find out more here. https://research.ncl.ac.uk/one-planet/. For technical reasons, current ocean models employed in climate research use what is called the Boussinesq approximation.
Ocean wave field and climate monitoring with a GNSS Wave Glider
  Dr N Penna
Application Deadline: 31 January 2019
This project is part of the ONE Planet DTP. Find out more here. https://research.ncl.ac.uk/one-planet/. Ocean wave field monitoring is needed for climatology, as it controls the input of wind stress into the oceanic mixed layer and thereby serves as a control for the global ocean climate.
Artificial Intelligence in Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Networks
  Dr Y Liu
Application Deadline: 30 March 2019
With the rapid development of control technology and manufacture business, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which were originally initiated by the military…
Investigating the Drosophila DF31 protein to gain insight into the mechanisms and chromatin maintenance in animal cells
Dr S Cotterill, Dr A Nohturfft
Applications accepted all year round
The Drosophila DF31 protein is an abundant ribonucleoprotein that localises to euchromatic regions and is involved in maintaining chromosome structure.
Computational Engineering: College of Engineering Centenary Scholarship: Bioheat transfer, transport and entropy in a human body. Full body computational modelling study.
  Prof P. Nithiarasu
Application Deadline: 31 January 2019
Subject area. Computational Engineering. Start date. April 2019 but flexible. Project description. A large scale human body model to study various forms of transport, including radiation (diagnostics) and bioheat transfer (entropy and ageing), is the primary aim of this project.
