Physics-based Multi-scale Modelling of Multi-Material Additive Manufacturing

Project Details. Additive manufacturing (AM) is emerging as a promising alternative for designing multi-material parts for complex geometries in engineering applications; especially in the biomedical sector. Read more

Imaging atomic-level electrochemistry in real-time using 2D material devices

Imaging atomic-level electrochemistry in real-time using 2D material devices. Funded project. You will construct and use a new 2D material heterostructure device to allow the atomic to nanoscale imaging of electrochemical reactions inside a transmission electron microscope (TEM). Read more

Investigation into the Impact of Material Properties on the Gas Transport Behaviour of Polyolefin Materials

The sustainable use of polymeric materials is underpinned by ensuring long service life in all industries and applications. Understanding durability requires research into the effects of both manufacturing methods and environmental storage conditions on the material properties and performance over time. Read more

Material degradation study of heat-exchanger materials and coatings for renewable energy PhD

This is a self-funded PhD position to work with Dr Adnan Syed in the Surface Engineering and Precision Centre. The PhD project will focus studying high temperature corrosion mechanisms in details to identify the material degradation and coatings applications details in extreme environments. Read more

Multi-material metal 3D Printing for compact, lightweight heat exchangers for high power thermal management (ENG 1757)

Supervisors. Dr. Luke Parry, Dr. Vitor Marques (Industrial Supervisor). About the Project. The project is to contribute to a major Ministry of Defence (MOD) research programme intended to develop generation after next technologies for applications in defence and security, and this project will be co-funded by Leonardo. Mathematical and computational modelling of diffusion-driven material ageing

This project will consider systems of reaction-advection-diffusion equations both computationally and analytically. These find application to modelling corrosion/ageing in materials, where diffusion of a reactant into the bulk material and its subsequent reaction leads to the growth of unwanted corrosion products.
