Microbially-synthesised cellulose nanofibres, more commonly known as bacterial cellulose (BC), is an ultra-pure form of cellulose nanofibers with mechanical performance exceeding that of single E-glass or Kevlar fibre.
This project is funded by the UK’s Ministry of Defence and involves Rolls Royce and the University of Birmingham. It is a PhD studentship that is focused on developing new materials that both possess specific electromagnetic properties and are also capable of withstanding high temperatures.
