This PhD will explore the current prominence of identity politics from a Lacanian and post-Lacanian perspective, with a view to interrogating the functioning, the limitations and the ramifications of this popular tendency and how it interacts variously with democratic potential and with the rise of populism.
We are currently collecting qualitative and quantitative data on emotional reactions during the financial crisis in Greece to establish how individual and collective emotions can explain public reactions to austerity politics..
