eSports: perceptual, cognitive and visuomotor skill development in the digital world
Dr D Souto, Dr P Duke
Application Deadline: 6 January 2019
Competitive video-gaming, also known as eSports, is rapidly growing to occupy the role of traditional sporting events. eSports has become a billion-dollar industry, supports professional leagues, has global reach via online tournaments and is being considered for inclusion in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Characterising the mechanisms of optic flow parsing
Dr P Warren, Dr R Champion
Applications accepted all year round
Humans move in their environment. As a result complex patterns of motion called optic flow arise on the retina. It is well known that the brain has regions that are sensitive to optic flow, however there is some debate about their functional role.
Early stage researcher/PhD position in a European Training Network project - the dynamics of visual perception and its neuronal correlates
  Prof H Boyaci
Applications accepted all year round
The project is part of a European Training Network (ETN) with altogether 11 projects on cutting-edge, multidisciplinary research in visual, visual-haptic perception, their neuronal correlates and computer rendering.
Understanding Social and Cognitive Processing of Faces (ZhaoMU19PSY)
  Dr M Zhao
Application Deadline: 20 January 2019
Our visual system is remarkably good at detecting faces in the environment and extracting rich social and semantic information from a glimpse of faces (e.g., finding your friends in a busy railway station or reading out concealing emotion).

Social behavioural difficulties are commonly reported by individuals with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC). One of the leading theories suggests that these difficulties are brought about by a reduced reward response to social stimuli, i.e.
Attention and Perception in autism spectrum conditions
  Dr E Milne
Applications accepted all year round
This project will investigate perception and attention in individuals with autism spectrum conditions using a mixture of behavioural psychophysics and EEG methodologies.
Computational modelling of the emergence of somatosensory cortical maps
Dr H Saal, Dr SP Wilson
Applications accepted all year round
The aim of this project is to to build a computational model of the development of cortical somatotopy in humans, focusing specifically on the representation of the hand.
