Enhancing the performance, condition, safety and reliability of offshore wind energy infrastructure systems using optimal design, inspections, structural health monitoring and structural control
Dr P Omenzetter, Dr P Dunning, Dr S Sriramula, Dr Amir Siddiq
Applications accepted all year round
Wind turbines are exposed to frequent structural damage increasing the cost of wind energy generation. To drive these costs down, this project will develop new automated methods for detection of structural damage to wind turbines by examining vibration responses measured by sensors attached to the structure.
Structural controls on gold mineralization in the Palaeoproterozoic Mako Volcanic Belt, Senegal
  Dr J Lambert-Smith, Prof T Blenkinsop
Application Deadline: 7 January 2019
Project Background. Orogenic gold deposits have strong structural controls on their location and geometry at all scales.
Development of Smart Memory Alloy with Enhanced Structural Performance under fire (Advert Reference: SF18-2/MCE/GONZALEZ SANCHEZ)
Dr S Gonzalez Sanchez, Dr K Poologanthan, Dr B Nagaratnam
Applications accepted all year round
Shape memory alloys (SMAs) are special materials with a substantial potential for various structural engineering applications. The novelty of such materials lies in their ability to undergo large deformations and return to their un-deformed shape through stress removal or heating (shape-memory effect).
Wellcome Trust Graduate programme in Structural Biology
Wellcome Trust Graduate programme in Structural Biology. The University of Oxford in conjunction with the Wellcome Trust offers a four-year graduate programme in Structural Biology, leading to the PhD degree.
Structural Behaviour of Reusable Steel/Concrete Composite Floor Systems
Research Group: Centre For Sustainable Environments
Prof D Lam, Dr X Dai
Applications accepted all year round
This project aims to develop a numerical model to investigate the behaviour of reusable composite floor system to be used in steel/concrete composite structures.
  Multiscale Determinants of Myocardial Mechanics
  Dr D Nordsletten
Applications accepted all year round
First Supervisor. Dr David Nordsletten. Second Supervisor. Professor Reza Razavi. Understanding the health and function of heart muscle is critical to the assessment of a range of cardiac pathologies.
PhD Studentship (Sponsored by Lloyds Register Foundation) - Structural Longevity for advanced marine vehicles in extreme environments
Dr S Soua, Mr P Jamshidi, Ms S Walker
Applications accepted all year round
Background. To ensure safety of any engineering system so that human life is protected and the environment is safe it is logical to be able to define when it is operating outside of its design condition.
BBSRC MIBTP - Structural Brain Plasticity in Health, Regeneration and Repair
  Research Group: BBSRC MIBTP
  Dr A Hidalgo
Applications accepted all year round
The brain is plastic. neurons and glia make adjustments in cell size and shape (dendrites, axons), in synapses, and in cell number, throughout life.
Structural investigation of interactions within the tripartite drug-efflux pumps in Gram-negative bacteria.
Dr VN Bavro, Dr K Futterer
Applications accepted all year round
Tripartite multidrug efflux-pumps are key contributors to the rising global problem of multidrug resistance in Gram-negative bacteria.
Field-based investigation of structural and geochemical variability of gold-bearing veins in the Klondike Gold District, Yukon, Canada
Dr T Torvela, Dr R Chapman, Dr D Banks
Application Deadline: 7 January 2019
Late-orogenic hydrothermal activity results in the formation of quartz and carbonate vein systems in the upper crust. It is an enigma why only certain hydrothermal pulses are associated with economic gold mineralization but others are not.
