  Dr E English
Application Deadline: 31 May 2019
Currently type 2 diabetes can be diagnosed using glucose or HbA1c testing provided that stringent quality assurance tests are in place.
PhD vacancy (4 years) on fatigue testing of composites with advanced instrumentation @ Ghent University (Belgium)
  Prof W VAN PAEPEGEM
Applications accepted all year round
Composites are used more and more as structural components in aerospace industry, automotive sector, wind energy applications,… As a consequence, the loads on those composite components are much higher than for secondary components, and can lead to fatigue damage in the composite part.
Combining Concolic Testing with Machine Learning to Find Software Vulnerabilities in the Internet of Things
  Dr LC Cordeiro
Applications accepted all year round
Concolic testing is a software verification technique that has been successfully applied to find subtle bugs in embedded software.
Pre-clinical testing of new therapeutic treatments for cystic kidney disease
  Dr S Bell, Prof C A Johnson
Applications accepted all year round
The primary cilium on the ventral surface of most vertebrate cells acts as an “antennae” that receives and transduces chemo- and mechanosensory signals.
Traumatic brain injury in sport: improving personal protective equipment, international testing standards and injury event simulation for particular sports and beyond - Ref: AHUF2018
Dr A Harland, Dr S Mitchell
Application Deadline: 22 April 2019
Many of the worlds sports governing bodies are actively pursuing research to better understand and reduce the risk of single or multiple traumatic brain injuries resulting in immediate or future impairment.
Developing and testing models of human tooth shape using dental radiographs
Prof H Liversidge, Prof F Wong
Applications accepted all year round
Background. Human teeth vary in shape. The dimensions and shape of teeth from dental radiographs has not been studied in detail. Knowledge of the variation in crown and root dimensions of the mature tooth helps to define abnormal teeth as well as abnormal tooth eruption.
Reconstructing latitudinal terrestrial environments at the Cretaceous-Palaeogene boundary; Testing the ‘Equable Earth’ hypothesis
Dr R Jerrett, Dr B Van Dongen
Application Deadline: 6 February 2019
As anthropogenic atmospheric warming is forecasted to exceed 2°C above preindustrial temperatures by 2100, it remains unclear how thermal energy will be redistributed across the globe (from equator to pole) and to what extent this will impact the terrestrial environments.
The Supernova Simulator: testing AI learning for target location and character across scales in space and time
Dr A Lundgren, Dr P Benson, Prof D Bacon
Application Deadline: 17 February 2019
Applications are invited for a fully-funded three year PhD to commence in October 2019. The PhD will be based in the Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation and will be supervised by Dr Andrew Lundgren, Dr Philip Benson and Professor David Bacon.
Synthesis and testing of small-molecule heparin-mimics as potential anti-metastatic drugs
Dr J Wilkinson, Dr G Di Leva
Applications accepted all year round
