Transcription control and immune evasion in African trypanosomes
Research Group: Division of Cell & Molecular Biology
  Prof G Rudenko
Applications accepted all year round
Trypanosomes are unicellular eukaryotes which cause African Sleeping Sickness, which is endemic to subSaharan Africa. Trypanosomes can be easily grown as suspension cell lines in the laboratory, where they are straightforward to manipulate and genetically modify.
MSc by Research Project: Iron starvation signalling in the parasite Trypanosoma brucei
  Dr M Urbaniak
Application Deadline: 19 December 2018
The ability of the vector-borne parasite Trypanosoma brucei to acquire the essential nutrient iron from its mammalian host is critical for its survival and virulence.
C3Bio DTI PhD Studentship: Smart traps for Chagas Disease - Employing microfluidics and machine learning to develop kissing bug traps for use throughout Latin America
  Dr N Priest
Application Deadline: 10 January 2019
The University of Bath invites applications for a PhD studentship within the C3Bio Doctoral Training Initiative. Grand Challenges in Health Technologies.
4 Year Wellcome Trust PhD Programme: Decoding virulence mechanisms in trypanosomes
  Prof D Horn
Application Deadline: 14 December 2018
The African trypanosome, Trypanosoma brucei, is transmitted among mammalian hosts by tsetse flies. These unicellular parasites cause sleeping sickness or Human African Trypanosomiasis, typically fatal if left untreated, and the livestock disease known as nagana.
4 Year Wellcome Trust PhD Programme: Mode of action of novel trypanosides.
  Prof M Field
Application Deadline: 14 December 2018
Development of new drugs against parasitic diseases is a major need. We are studying a novel class of boron-containing drugs that have action against trypanosomatids, and for which we have evidence of multiple modes of action and activation.
BBSRC EASTBIO PhD Programme: Novel biopolymer assembly - using a divergent lamina system to understand principles of self-assembling fibres
Prof M Field, Prof E Schirmer
Application Deadline: 10 December 2018
Self-assembly of larger protein networks is a central feature of replicating systems from viral capsids to the cytoskeleton that gives cells structure and polarity.
China Scholarship Council PhD Programme: Decoding virulence mechanisms in trypanosomes
  Prof D Horn
Application Deadline: 14 January 2019
The African trypanosome, Trypanosoma brucei, is transmitted among mammalian hosts by tsetse flies. These unicellular parasites cause sleeping sickness, also known as Human African Trypanosomiasis, which is typically fatal if left untreated, and the livestock disease known as nagana.
China Scholarship Council PhD Programme: Mode of Action of novel trypanosides

Application Deadline: 14 January 2019

Mitochondrial biogenesis and function in trypanosomes
Research Group: Institute of Immunology & Infection Research
  Dr A Schnaufer
Application Deadline: 13 December 2018
Trypanosomatids are unicellular parasites that are as devastating in their consequences on health and economy as they are captivating as subjects of biological study.
