Self-organized collective patterns on graphs (ESR 3)
  Prof M Hutt
Application Deadline: 30 April 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

Over the last few years, diverse studies have established that many forms of dynamics self-organize on networks to give rise to large-scale collective patterns.
Development of a novel Stimulated Raman Scattering microscopy system
  Prof C Liberale
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

An innovative high-speed broadband Stimulated Raman Scattering system will be designed and implemented in our laboratory, in the framework of a recently awarded grant, in collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano (Italy).
Diffusion Ordered Spectroscopy NMR for the Rapid Identification of Medicinal Plants
Dr JM Peron, Dr A Le Gresley
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

Diffusion Ordered Spectroscopy (DOSY) is a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technique that is used to analyse mixtures.[1–3] Put simply, NMR signals that overlap in 1D NMR spectra are separated in 2D DOSY spectra according to molecular size and those that belong to the same component align as they are governed by the same diffusion coefficient.
Barcoding atherosclerotic plaque cells: single cell sequencing to reveal heterogeneity and functional impact of atherosclerotic plaque cells
  Dr J Sluimer
Application Deadline: 16 July 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

A position for a PhD-student (gross €2325—€2972 per month) is available in dr. Sluimer’s team in the experimental vascular Pathology Dept.

The SpooQy Lab team of Alexander Ling works on the challenges of deployable quantum communications, and is looking for PhD candidate who is interested in developing the next generation of instruments.
PhD studentship in Hibernating turbulence in boundary-layer flows
  Dr R Whalley
Application Deadline: 24 April 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

Number of awards. 1. Start date and duration. October 2020 for up to 3.5 years. Overview. Hibernating turbulence is a unique form of fluid-flow intermittency which causes the skin-friction drag force experienced by an aero- of hydrodynamic body to temporarily reduce by up to 70% [1, 2].
PhD studentship in: Super-miniature engineering using MEMS technologies: next generation sensors for turbulence measurements
  Dr R Whalley
Application Deadline: 24 April 2020
