Laser studies of free-radical recycling reactions in the atmosphere and biofuel oxidation
  Dr T J Dillon, Dr A R Rickard
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

This is a project to study gas-phase reactions of organic peroxyl radicals (RO2) in lab-based experiments at York & elsewhere. These reactions control radical propagation and termination rates in low to moderate temperature conditions; RO2 are therefore key intermediates in biofuel combustion and atmospheric oxidation.
Development of an advanced biofuel platform through the catalytic thermochemical processing of marine bioresources
  Dr C Chuck
Application Deadline: 31 July 2019

Funding Type

PhD Type

You will work closely with our partners at Plymouth Marine Lab and the US Dept. of Energy to develop suitable hydrocarbon fuels from an array of promising 3rd generation marine bioresources.
Investigating Photosynthesis in Nannochloropsis – An Important Algal Genus for Biofuel Production
  Dr D J Gilmour
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

One of the key insights from phylogenetic studies of eukaryotic microorganisms is the enormous diversity within the microalgal group with green algae being similar to plants and other groups such as diatoms being very different.
Investigating Photosynthesis in Nannochloropsis – An Important Algal Genus for Biofuel Production

Characterization of Some Biofuels from Waste Resources for Diesel Engine Applications.
  Dr O Kuti
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

Research Institute Reference Number. OA-2018-2-PhD. Project Summary. Biofuels such as alcohols and biodiesel from waste restaurant foods and agricultural residues have prospects as alternative source of energy for diesel engines in ensuring a low carbon environment.
Plant responses to stress, metabolites for health and fuel from cell walls.
  Prof A Devoto
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

Projects are available in the following areas. Stress responses in crops and sustainable biomass production and processing. The project aims at elucidating several aspects of the control of plant defences and to identify environmentally friendly forms of plant protectants, leading to enhanced crop yields.
Studying Single Aerosol Nucleation using Optical Tweezers
  Prof D McGloin
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

The following PhD project is available for both Australian domestic and international students starting in early 2019 to work with Prof.
Synthetic complexes of the histidine brace
  Prof P Walton
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

Cellulose is the world’s most abundant biopolymer. 1011 kg is generated every year, equivalent in energy to 670 billion barrels of oil, some 20 times the current annual global oil consumption.
