Applications are invited from UK/EU students with, or expecting to obtain, a first or upper second class honours degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics or similar numerate discipline to join the CDT in Communications Engineering integrated 4-year PhD programme.
Academics in the Centre work closely with national and international companies to undertake cutting-edge applied and theoretical research, combined with bespoke training in the field of communications to train the next generation of communications engineers to work in industry or academia. The PhD programme is suitable both for recent graduates as well as those with significant industrial experience wishing to access new career paths in research or industry.
A wide range of PhD topics are proposed and developed collaboratively by industrial member companies and the academics, and are selected by students towards the end of the first year. During the first year students undertake a 3-month individual research project which prepares them for their full PhD project. At the start of the second year students are integrated into specialist research teams with world-leading research profiles and facilities in areas such as wireless communications, networks, RF technologies, vehicular connectivity, mathematics, video and communications and continue to collaborate with their industrial mentors.
* for eligible students only
Studentships are available to UK nationals & EU citizens resident in the UK for the previous 3 years. A limited number of studentships are available to EU applicants. Those in possession of their own funding (e.g. via a non-EU government scholarship) are also welcome to apply for a place of study.
Eligible students with a upper second or first class degree in a relevant engineering, mathematics, physics or similar numerate discipline will be considered for a studentship. Professional experience in relevant disciplines will also be taken into consideration.
