University of Manchester & Lancaster University, North West Nanoscience Doctoral Training Centre. Graphene NOWNANO is a recently established Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) at the University of Manchester in partnership with Lancaster University.
This project will be carried out at the interface between academia and industry, in close collaboration with our industrial partner, Manchester BIOGEL Ltd, to facilitate translational development of a novel diagnostic platform by bridging the gap between a scientific discovery and its future commercialisation.

This PhD project is at the interface between physical chemistry and physical pharmacy and combines the use of several interfacial tools including neutron reflectometry and laser reflection techniques to understand and control the use of nanoparticles in tuning reservoir formation in films at the air/water interface.
Oxidation reactions play a key role in the bulk chemical industry and enzyme-mediated biocatalysis offers an alternative to the use of traditional catalysts, which can suffer from poor chemical selectivity and require the use of harsh reaction conditions and produce hazardous waste products.
In this project we propose to develop electron and photon mediated top-down sequencing methods to analyse recombinant biological therapeutics including monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) and adeno-associated viral (AAV) vectors.
