Applied Mathematics (gas turbine) PhD Projects, Programmes & Scholarships

We have 5 Applied Mathematics (gas turbine) PhD Projects, Programmes & Scholarships

Combined Cycle Gas Turbine – CCS; experiment and modelling

This project will combine an experimental and modelling study of a combined cycle gas turbine with CCS. A Turbec T100 gas turbine will be modified to allow the investigation of the effect of exhaust gas recycle and or steam injection on its performance, with measurement of power output and exhaust gas emissions. Integration of membranes at PACT for industrial testing with real/synthetic flue gases

A pre-pilot-scale membrane module prototype will be installed for industrial testing at the UKCCSRC PACT) Facilities, integrated with a gas turbine and a solid fuel reactor for coal/biomass to test number of fuels and operating conditions. Read more

Flame and Acoustic Wave Interactions

Thermoacoustic instability is an unresolved problem in combustion devices such as gas turbine and jet engine. When the acoustic pressure is coupled with the heat release fluctuation, very strong oscillation may occur, which may even damage the hardware component to cause high losses. Read more

Flame Dynamics at Elevated Pressure

Many combustion devices such as a gas turbine combustor are working at high pressure. To know the flame dynamics at elevated pressure is of great importance. Read more
