Using paediatric GI data to better understand dissolution and absorption in paediatric populations
  Dr H Batchelor
Applications accepted all year round
Applications are invited for a 3-year fully-funded PhD Studentship starting October 2019. The project will be supervised by Dr Hannah Batchelor and is aligned to her research in paediatric medicines.
EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Engineered Tissues for Discovery, Industry and Medicine (LifETIME)
The CDT will train the next generation of leaders in developing in vitro tissues, sensing and diagnostics to develop humanised in vitro systems to drive better drug screening.

Understanding the role of the globin cytoglobin in cancer cell drug resistance
  Dr N J Hodges
Applications accepted all year round
Cytoglobin is related to haemoglobin and myoglobin but has a very poorly understood biological function. Work in our lab has shown that expression of cytoglobin in cancer cells alters mitochondrial function and affords protection from anti-cancer drugs including cisplatin.
Understanding the mechanism of action of ferro-nucleobase analogues
  Dr N J Hodges
Applications accepted all year round
Through collaboration with Professor Jim Tucker (School of Chemistry) we are studying the cellular effects of a novel DNA base analogues based on the organometallic compound ferrocene.
Pharmacology of soft nanomaterials: investigating nanoparticle-cell interaction
  Dr M Jones
Applications accepted all year round
Research into so-called ’soft’ or organic nanomaterials has been thriving with a wide variety of compositions being explored for pharmaceutical applications.
PhD in Clinical Cardiology: Improving management of atrial fibrillation and heart failure
  Dr D Kotecha
Applications accepted all year round
We are offering an opportunity for an excellent candidate to apply for a 3 year PhD studentship. The student must be self-funding and able to pay for tuition fees, living costs and consumables (no grants for this position are currently available).
Investigating the protective role of nitrite against myocardial ischaemia reperfusion injury
  Dr M Madhani
Applications accepted all year round
Despite advances in both knowledge and technology, coronary heart disease is the most common cause of death worldwide. Currently, substantial expenditure in the health service is directed towards restoring blood flow in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in order to limit myocardial injury.
