Reservoirs and dams are popular control mechanisms for different water resources around the world. However, lately, there have been increasing incidences of reservoir failure linked to sediment transport and vegetation within its environment, that have caused massive financial and social impacts.
The study on flooding, and identifying suitable ways to mitigate floods, have become a top priority for Government and the Environmental Agency, due to increasing flood frequency and intensity around the UK.

Potable water supply is becoming a limited resource now days due to the increase in size of the community. Desalination process to compensate the shortage in potable water is necessary.

The project is to examine the effect of vegetations on the open channel/river flow and sediment transport. It is well known that plants can reduce flow velocity, and thus sediment transport by creating additional flow resistance, leading to the increase of the river flooding.

The installation of Offshore Wind Energy Device (OWED) will inevitably alter the flow patterns around the devices. This may enhance the sediment transport and scour around the foundation, thus leading to the instability of offshore wind energy device foundation, and further resultant failure of the whole system.

Gravity current is frequently encountered in natural (e.g. saltwater intrusion in estuary) and men-made environment (e.g. mining solution; desalination).
The design paradigm for automotive systems faces significant challenges from the evolution towards the vision of the future car as a mobile smart device that is substantively defined by its symbiotic interaction and integration with its environment, supporting increased levels of autonomy as well as user-centric service innovation.
