National Structural Integrity Research Centre

The National Structural Integrity Research Centre (NSIRC) will be a state-of-the-art postgraduate engineering facility established and managed by structural integrity specialist TWI, working closely with lead academic partner Brunel University, the universities of Cambridge and Manchester, University College London (UCL), and a number of industrial partners. The collaborating partners will provide academic excellence to address the need for fundamental research, as well as high-quality, industry-relevant training for the next generation of structural integrity engineers.

NSIRC will advance fundamental research to support the safe operation of products and structures,
develop innovative, fit-for-purpose technologies and design rules and will demonstrate solutions for longterm
asset management. This will include risk-based management, engineering critical assessment, NDT,
structural health and condition monitoring and health management for use in industrial applications.

The NSIRC initiative is funded by the following:

UK Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) through its Regional Growth Fund (RGF) to a level of £18.5m
The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) to a level of £15m
SIRF (Structural Integrity Research Foundation), which is a funding vehicle set up by TWI to fund NSIRC
