Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg

With the decision to take its name from Carl von Ossietzky the University of Oldenburg emphasised science’s responsibility toward society and its need to engage in public discourse. This tradition remains vital to the university’s identity to this day.
The University of Oldenburg is a young university. Since its founding in 1973 the university has enriched the Northwest region of Germany with economic and cultural impulses. Strengthening the region as a centre of science and research is also the declared objective of its close co-operation with the University of Bremen.
