PhD in Continuous Manufacturing and Advanced Crystallisation

Funding Type

PhD Type

Delivering the next generation of highly skilled researchers and future workforce that will drive the transformation of continuous manufacturing.
EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Molecules to Product

Funding Type

PhD Type

50 funded PhD studentships will be available over the next 5 years for UK and EU students. The Centre for Doctoral Training in Molecules to Product will train tomorrow's research leaders with the skills and know-how in designing, characterising and developing the next generation of chemical and material based products.
  Ligands on demand
Prof B Hanson, Dr R Bourne
Application Deadline: 30 June 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

Current recycling of used nuclear fuel is based on the PUREX process; a solvent extraction process utilising tri-butyl phosphate as a ligand to extract uranium and plutonium.
Nanoscale transport mechanisms in zeolites and metal-organic frameworks
  Prof R Brydson
Application Deadline: 5 June 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

The project will build on recent work on the two- and three-dimensional imaging of composition1,2 and nanoscale optical properties3 in metal-organic framework (MOF) glasses.
What do we do with left over Magnox: optimisation of a direct encapsulation process for the treatment of Magnox fuel and wastes
Prof B Hanson, Dr B Mishra
Application Deadline: 18 July 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

It is possible that a small quantity of Magnox fuel may not be reprocessed. Experience from the First Generation Fuel Storage ponds at Sellafield site shows us that wet storage of Magnox fuels leads to extensive corrosion of the cladding and partial corrosion of the uranium metal.
Developing an Imaging-Diffraction Method for Corrosion and Steel Degradation Studies
Dr A Matamoras Veloza, Prof A Neville
Application Deadline: 31 August 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

This project provides an excellent opportunity for doctoral training on corrosion and steel degradation as part of a collaborative work between the School of Mechanical Engineering, University of Leeds and ISIS Neutron and Muon Facility, at the STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory near Oxford.
The Effectiveness of Esters in Cooling and Lubricating Transmission Systems in Electric Vehicles-Dielectric Fluids
Dr S Kosarieh, Prof A Neville
Application Deadline: 30 September 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

Energy conservation and emissions reduction have become increasingly significant for automobiles due to high energy demand, fuel economy and environmental concerns.
