Iron-sulfur clusters are ubiquitous cofactors in nature; present in a variety of metalloproteins, these clusters mediate a broad variety of essential biological processes, including electron transfer, reaction catalysis (hydrogenase, nitrogenase, etc.), oxygen-sensing and the regulation of gene expression.
Computer simulation of metal-amyloid interaction and its role in plaque formation
  Dr J Platts
Applications accepted all year round

Alzheimer’s disease is one of the greatest healthcare challenges facing 21st century society. AD is associated with formation of fibrils and plaques in brain tissue that impair proper functioning of neurons.
Plasma-catalytic synthesis of ammonia at low temperatures and ambient pressure
Dr X Tu, Dr HY Tiffany Chen
Application Deadline: 1 June 2019

Funding Type

PhD Type

Ammonia is an important chemical feedstock for the synthesis of fertilizers. Industrially, ammonia is currently produced via the Haber-Bosch (H-B) process by reacting N2 with hydrogen (H2) over an iron-based catalyst at high pressure (150 to 300 atm) and high temperature (400o to 500 oC).
