AACE-ASTRO-572: Metal Additive Manufacturing for Space Propulsion
  Research Group: Astronautics
  Dr A N Grubisic
Application Deadline: 31 August 2019

Funding Type

PhD Type

A unique opportunity for UK & EU residents to undertake a fully funded PhD studentship in the internationally recognized Astronautics Research Group in the Aeronautics and Astronautics Department at the University of Southampton under the supervision of Dr.
Fluid flows above and within porous materials
Prof D Pokrajac, Dr D Van der A
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

Fluid mechanics problems often involve fluid flows over porous materials. Examples of practical applications include flow through atmospheric and aquatic vegetation, coastal structures, and movement of biological fluids through various tissues.
Cost and efficiency focused optimisation of domestic waste water heat recovery application
Research Group: Future Cities Research Network
  Dr A Ramezanpour

Fire suppression capabilities of gas-like micromist
Dr S Dembele, Dr K Volkov, Dr A Heidari
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

The proclamation of the Montreal protocol in 1987, phasing out ozone depleting halons as fire suppression agent has led to a worldwide research and development effort to find alternative systems.
Towards a theory for the surface layer of the ocean: clarifying the contribution of non-breaking waves to the observed differences between the oceanic surface layer and its atmospheric counterpart
Dr MA Teixeira, Dr A Grant
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

In this project we intend to clarify the contribution of non-breaking waves to the observed differences between the oceanic surface layer and its atmospheric counterpart, and to formulate a systematic description of its scaling properties regarding, for example, heat and momentum fluxes, as achieved for the atmosphere by Monin-Obukhov theory.
