Fluid Mechanics (complex systems) PhD Projects, Programmes & Scholarships for European Students (exc UK)

We have 11 Fluid Mechanics (complex systems) PhD Projects, Programmes & Scholarships for European Students (exc UK)

Numerical Investigation of Liquid Metal Magneto-Coriolis-Centrifugal Convection

Applications are invited for a PhD position in Geophysical Fluid Dynamics within the project MAGNADO - The Magnetohydrodynamics of Liquid Metal Tornadoes (selected for funding by the prestigious European Research Council (ERC) and funded through the UKRI 'Horizon Europe guarantee') at the Research Centre for Fluid and Complex Systems (FCS) at Coventry University. Pathogen Aerosolization and Detection in Building Wastewater System Fluid Dynamics

Research Group: Institute of Sustainable Built Environment
The development of high-rise buildings is now at an unprecedented rate, with their number and scale rapidly and dramatically changing the landscape of global cities. The creation of these complex vertical communities poses major operational challenges for the systems relied upon for occupant safety and the responsible management of wastewater resources. Nonlinear Aerostructural Optimisation of Boundary Layer Ingesting Fan

Supervisory Team. Prof. Ali Elham, Dr. Jie Yuan. Project description. To meet the objectives of the Paris Climate Agreement, aviation (~3% of human global CO2 emissions) must do its share. Read more

Development of novel techniques to reduce aerodynamic noise

In this exciting project, we will develop and test a range of novel techniques to reduce noise from aerodynamic components. This will include the use of standard and functionally graded porous materials, perforated sheets with complex hole patterns, etc. Read more

Flight mechanics and stability in birds during extreme manoeuvres of take-off and landing

During take-off birds accelerate primarily through from the ground reaction force, with aerodynamics playing a lesser role. In landing things are quite different; birds use mainly aerodynamic drag on the wings to decelerate, with the legs bringing them finally to rest after touchdown. Read more
