Creative Research Degrees at The University for the Creative Arts

Studying a research degree at the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) means joining a vibrant and progressive top ten research community with a wealth of specialist resources for creative research and practice.

Joining us for your creative PhD will give you an unparalleled opportunity to delve into an area of research that is relevant to your ambitions and aspirations.

You'll be part of our imaginative, supportive research community at our UCA Doctoral College, where you'll have a regular base to design your own studies, explore your chosen creative field, make academic connections, and develop unique and impressive doctoral work.

The Application Portal for our PhD intake in September 2024 closes on 10 June 2024. The application requires you to upload a 2-minute video presenting your proposal, and a writing sample. You don’t need to have a fully developed proposal, only a research idea, as our programme will support you to produce a full proposal once you enrol.

Funding and Studentships 2024

We are delighted to offer several scholarships this year, including full scholarships, fee waivers, open scholarships, and a collaborative award. You can find further information on fees and funding at our website. Applications submitted before 10 April 2024 will be considered for the studentships and fee waivers.

Entry requirements and study options

To apply for a PhD at UCA, you must have a recognised Master’s degree (or equivalent) relevant to your proposed programme of study, or a first-class honours degree (or equivalent) with appropriate research or professional experience.

International candidates must have an IELTS 7.0 in English Language for a standard thesis route and no less than 6.5 for a practice-based route (or equivalent qualification.

You can choose to study either full-time or part-time, however part-time study is not available to international students.
