EPSRC CDT in Nuclear Energy - GREEN (Growing skills for Reliable Economic Energy from Nuclear)
The GREEN CDT is a consortium of the five universities of Lancaster, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and Sheffield, which aims to train the next generation of expert nuclear scientists and engineers.
  Next generation nuclear structure studies
Prof I Martel, Prof R Page
Application Deadline: 31 March 2019
The HIE-ISOLDE facility at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland is a superconducting (SC) heavy-ion linac for exploring exotic nuclear structures and stellar nucleosynthesis by using nuclear reactions.
Effect of hydrogen on crack tip plasticity in reactor steels
Prof EA Patterson, Dr M Patel
Applications accepted all year round
The presence of hydrogen is known to accelerate the growth of fatigue cracks in steels. Prior work has suggested that hydrogen disrupts the formation of dislocations at the microscale and causes a localisation of plastic flow ahead of the crack tip at the mesoscale.
