Development and application of multi-functional graphene-modified cementitious matrix
Dr M Su, Dr A Foster, Prof Y Wang
Application Deadline: 30 April 2019
This is an exciting opportunity to take a leading role on a cutting edge project between the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering and the pioneering National Graphene Institute.
EPSRC-SFI Centre for Doctoral Training in Advanced Metallic Systems – Call for Applications for 4-year Funded PhD and EngD Studentships
We are looking for one hundred STEM graduates excited to improve the world via impactful research in new and novel metallic materials for power generation, transport, sustainability and recyclables, in a rapidly evolving digital manufacturing era using advanced computing techniques.
Investigation of flexural behaviour of sea-sand RC members strengthened by ICCP-SS technique
Dr M Su, Prof Y Wang
Applications accepted all year round
Sea-sand concrete can cause corrosion of steel re-bars in reinforced concrete (RC) structures, resulting in structure deterioration.
Tailoring composite laminates with tow-level fibre hybridization using multiscale modelling
Dr K Katnam, Dr B Lazarov, Dr P Potluri
Application Deadline: 15 March 2019
If you are looking for an exciting research position in the area of advanced composite materials and computational mechanics, this is an excellent opportunity for you.
Investigating hydride growth mechanisms in zirconium alloys
  Research Group: Metallurgy and Corrosion
Dr P Shanthraj, Prof M Preuss
Applications accepted all year round
Zirconium alloys are most commonly used as the fuel cladding material in nuclear reactors. Hydrogen uptake in these alloys occurs as a result of aqueous corrosion during service, and the absorbed hydrogen precipitate out of solution as hydrides once its solubility limit in the alloy is exceeded.
Increasing the energy efficiency of straddle carriers in Port
  Prof W Holderbaum
Application Deadline: 30 April 2019
Increasing the energy efficiency and reducing the emissions of container cranes in Port. This work will be novel as no systematic study has ever been made of the options for increasing efficiency of cranes nor how the use of intelligent energy storage could be used to reduce the demand in both peak power and energy.
Advanced digital image processing for Building Information Modelling (BIM)
  Dr E Lou
Applications accepted all year round
Reference Number. EL-2018-PhD-1. Project Summary. Technology in building design, simulation and intelligence in buildings are well-represented and making headlines with Building Information Modelling (BIM).
