A Statistical Approach to Understanding the Complexity of Bryozoan Mineralogy
Dr P Dillingham, Prof D Bryant
Application Deadline: 31 July 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

The Project. Bryozoans are one of the most mineralogically-complex phyla in the sea. These small colonial invertebrates make hard skeletons from seawater in any of three carbonate minerals, sometimes in various combinations, in response to controls that are intrinsic (phylogeny, development) and extrinsic (environment).
MRC DTP 4 Year PhD Programme: Understanding complexity in multi-isolate biofilms
  Dr N Stanley-Wall, Prof F Davidson
Application Deadline: 11 January 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

This project is offered as part of the University of Dundee 4-year MRC DTP Programme “Quantitative and Interdisciplinary approaches to biomedical science”.
The Ultimate Limiting Nutrient for Oceanic Primary Production
Prof T Tyrrell, Dr A Yool, Dr J Wilson
Application Deadline: 3 January 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

Project Rationale. In order to know how Earth’s climate system works, we need to understand what controls oceanic primary production.
Sparsity and structures in large-scale machine learning problems.
Dr B Gauthier, Prof A Balinsky
Application Deadline: 1 December 2019

Funding Type

About the Award. The University of Exeter’s College of Engineering, Maths and Physical Sciences, is inviting applications for a fully-funded PhD studentship to commence in September 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.
  Microplastic Transport in Environmental Flows
  Dr R Dorrell
Application Deadline: 13 December 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

Microplastics are anthropogenic particles that range from micron to millimetre in size. Carrying biological and chemical pollutants they pose a significant risk to natural ecosystems and habitats.
  Personalised digital health
  Dr M Chli
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

In collaboration with RowAnalytics Ltd, this project will build an, IoT enabled, intelligent patient monitoring and response system, where complex edge analytics and disease knowledge models are combined with a patient’s health data to provide fully personalized real-time advice.
Combining game theory and the weak noise limit to understand spatio-temporal ecological models of animal movements.
Dr TE Woolley, Dr V Knight
Application Deadline: 1 December 2019

Funding Type

PhD Type

The project seeks to bring together two different but complementary fields of mathematics in order to extract further understanding from each.
Design of experiments in regression models with correlated observations
Prof A Zhigljavsky, Dr A Pepelyshev
Application Deadline: 1 December 2019

Funding Type

PhD Type

The design of experiments is an area of mathematical sciences which has direct economic impact. Optimal designs allow saving time, materials and other resources.
  Hawkes processes and financial applications
  Dr M Chen
Application Deadline: 1 December 2019

Funding Type

PhD Type

Systemic risk modelling and market microstructure utilizing Hawkes processes and dynamic network approaches. Hawkes processes are a family of stochastic models to arrival of events in which the occurrence of any event would increase the intensity of further events occurring soon after.
