Investigating functional and kinematic alterations in upper limb motion following clavicular malunions in adults using 3-D kinematic analysis and functional tasks.

Current evidence suggests displaced, mid-shaft clavicle fractures can be managed conservatively with satisfactory long-term functional outcomes, although critically other studies suggest 42% of people have residual sequalae; including deficit in shoulder strength and endurance. Read more

Combining laser and ultrasound based molecular delivery strategies for enhanced drug delivery

Overview. This project addresses the critical area of delivering therapeutics to the skin. If successful, the approach will have direct and positive consequences for the treatment of a range of skin diseases, but may also be viewed as a more generic means of drug delivery for treating a much wider range of disease. Interdisciplinary investigation of the role of amino acids in immunometabolic responses to metformin in human cells

There is overwhelming evidence that inflammation contributes to the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD) but counterbalancing this is evidence from meta-analysis of randomised control trials that many existing anti-inflammatory drugs, such as COX2 inhibitors and anti-TNF drugs, tend if anything to exacerbate risk of CVD. Examining the mechanisms that cause cardiovascular disease by studying the heart or adipose tissue

Heart failure has a serious impact on our society and once diagnosed has a poor survival rate. In the United Kingdom, there are about 1.5 million people living with the after-effects of a heart attack. Read more
