Role of m6A reader proteins in virus infection
Research Group: BBSRC White Rose DTP
Prof A Whitehouse, Dr A.K Tuplin
Application Deadline: 6 January 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

RNA is an intermediate molecule in the flow of genetic information from DNA to protein. It is a critical junction for the cell to regulate gene expression, through multiple RNA processing events.
Characterisation of a pre-osteoblast subset of human mesenchymal stem cells: implications for novel osteoarthritis and osteoporosis treatment development
Dr E Jones, Prof D McGonagle
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

Osteoarthritis (OA) and osteoporosis (OP) are the most common age-related skeletal diseases. They seriously affect patient’s quality of life and represent a significant healthcare burden to the UK society.
Developing Artificial Intelligence Tools for the Identification of Sleep Apnoea
Dr Y Zheng, Dr S Craig, Prof GYH Lip
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) occurs due to the repetitive closure of the pharynx during sleep, leading to sleep fragmentation and, often, daytime somnolence.
MRC DiMeN Doctoral Training Partnership: Can we isolate and characterise lymphocyte subsets in paediatric samples using electrical energy and mass cytometry?
Dr L Oni, Dr J Slupsky, Dr R Wright, Dr K Hoettges
Application Deadline: 6 January 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

Conventional flow cytometry is a tool used to detect and measure the physical and chemical characteristics of a set of cells. It is very useful for understanding inflammatory profile of diseases.
Imaging in Preventive Cardiology Research: improving how we identify and prevent heart disease in young people
Prof P Leeson, Dr A Lewandowski
Application Deadline: 10 January 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

The Preventive Cardiology Research Group aims to improve how we identify and prevent heart disease in young people. The group works in three areas.
Integrative Computational Biology and Machine Learning
  Dr A Sahakyan
Application Deadline: 10 January 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

In Sahakyan Group, we strive to make computational biology maximally independent from empirical experimental data, by basing our models and predictions on genomic sequences and core biological mechanisms.

Medical Image classification in cancer detection
  Dr S Chakraborty
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

Developing ML based classification models for detecting cancerous regions in medical images. The project aims to develop various classifiers using machine learning approaches such as Convolutional neural networks (CNN).
Sudden Coronary Artery Dissection Modelling for Medial Image detection and classification markers
  Dr S Beier
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

Sudden Coronary Artery Dissection or SACD often causes sudden death in young females below 44 years. This non-atherosclerotic condition is caused through the split of the internal arterial wall, which narrows the effective arterial cross-section and prevents sufficient blood supply causing heart attacks.
