Numerical Modelling of 3D Microstructure of Nonwovens
Dr E Demirci, Dr A Gleadall
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

The main aim of the proposed project is to develop a novel scheme for the analysis of a 3D orientation distribution function (ODF) of fibers in nonwovens using non-destructive testing methods, such as, X-ray micro computed tomography (CT), and to benchmark nonwovens analytically & graphically based on their 3D fibrous structure.
Sensor driven process control for robotic 3D printing of concrete
Dr P Kinnell, Dr R Buswell
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

Concrete 3D printing is an emerging manufacturing process that uses industrial robots to build large-scale components for a range of construction applications.
Additive manufacturing (3D printing) of metals
  Prof A J Moore
Application Deadline: 8 March 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

Applications are invited for a fully-funded PhD studentship starting in September 2020. It is suitable for well-qualified students who have (or expect to obtain) a first class degree in engineering, physics or other relevant subject.
Advanced manufacturing processes to enable the heterogeneous integration of power electronics - Ref: CL1UF2018
  Prof C Liu
Application Deadline: 3 May 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

Heterogeneous integration of power devices refers to the assembly of separately manufactured power semiconductors, passive components and control elements into a single package, i.e.
Super-resolved Terahertz Microscopy for Cellular Imaging
  Dr J Bowen
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

"The goal of this research project is to develop a new terahertz microscopy technique for the imaging of live cells with a spatial resolution of better than 1 micrometre.
Finite element model validation from Stereo Digital Image Correlation measurements
  Prof F Pierron
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

Supervisor. Prof. Fabrice Pierron. Co-supervisor Dr Lloyd Fletcher, Dr Pascal Lava. Project description. Digital cameras are now an integral part of our everyday lives (smartphones, CCTVs), costs are going down and performance is shooting up.
