Self-assembly of engineered biopolymers and proteins toward functional materials
  Prof Bernd Rehm
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

Biopolymers and proteins can be bioengineered to self-assemble into defined hierarchical architectures. Here protein engineering will be applied to design proteins, which link biopolymers such as alginate, biopolyester and spider silk to form complex hybrid materials.
Evolving novel and unconventional methods for making precise angstrom capillaries using 2D materials, and exploring molecular separation through them
  Dr R Boya
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

Angstrom-scale pores and capillaries have been studied intensively because of their importance in many natural phenomena and use in numerous applications.
Exploring organic materials chemistry is available in the Peeks group at UNSW
  Dr M Peeks
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

We are exploring the properties and applications of aromatic and antiaromatic molecules, with a particular interest in seeing how unusual (anti)aromatic building blocks can be combined, including in supramolecular assemblies, to deliver new properties.
Exploring the genome architecture of plastic-degrading bacteria
Dr S Robson, Dr J.E.M Watts
Application Deadline: 7 February 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

Applications are invited for a fully-funded four year PhD studentship to commence in October 2020. The PhD will be based at the University’s Centre for Enzyme Innovation (CEI), and will be supervised by Dr Sam Robson and Dr Joy Watts.
