Investigating the coupling between the circadian clock, metabolism and the environment in cyanobacteria

This project is available through the MIBTP programme. The successful applicant will join the MIBTP cohort and will take part in all of the training offered by the programme. Read more

Exploiting metabolic vulnerabilities induced by dietary restriction as novel therapies for infant leukaemia

TO APPLY, CLICK 'INSTITUTION WEBSITE'. Infant leukaemia is an aggressive malignancy with cure rates of less than 50%. Importantly, despite large international trials, there has been no improvement in survival over the last 2 decades. Read more

Role of the stringent response to promote biocide induced antibiotic tolerance in Staphylococcus aureus biofilms.

The selection of antibiotic tolerant bacteria is of emerging concern and is thought to contribute to treatment failure. Our preliminary data supports the hypothesis that widely used biocides can promote such tolerance in the major human pathogen Staphylococcus aureus by activation of the stringent response. Read more

The role of plant metallothioneins in drought tolerance and zinc seed filling

Minerals are essential for all organisms, including plants and animals. It is estimated that over 2 billion people suffer from micronutrient deficiency, with severe health and socio-economical consequences. Read more

Structural and functional analysis of DNA double strand break repair.

Eukaryotic cells have evolved complex molecular systems in order to detect and repair double-strand breaks (DSBs) of the DNA helix, which can arise from exposure to genotoxic agents or during normal nucleic acid metabolism. Read more
