We have 22 parasitology PhD Projects, Programmes & Scholarships for Non-European Students

Cracking the code of snails to elucidate parasite disease transmission

Call for PhD students in Snail Taxonomy, Genomics, and Host:Parasite Interact ions. Want to help resolve the taxonomy of Australian freshwater snails and assess their ability to transmit parasites to Australian livestock?. Read more

Roslin Foundation Studentship – Unravelling the genetic basis of tolerance to trypanosome infections in cattle

Supervisors. Liam Morrison, James Prendergast, Olivier Hanotte (International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Musa Hassan. We seek an enthusiastic student with experience in bioinformatics and/or genetics for an exciting four year Ph.D. Read more

QUADRAT DTP: Does host population fragmentation drive pathogen evolution and spillover risk?

This fully funded, 42-month PhD project is part of the QUADRAT Doctoral Training Partnership. The one health approach aims to optimise the health of people, animals and ecosystems, due to an increasing appreciation of the interdependence of human and animal health and the environment. Read more

BBSRC NLD Doctoral Training Partnership: Sustainable control of parasites in ewes

The welfare and productivity of sheep in the UK is currently compromised by the development and spread of resistance to the major classes of anthelmintics (veterinary medicines) used to control parasitic gastrointestinal nematodes. Read more

BBSRC NLD Doctoral Training Partnership: Understanding the impact of parasitic co-infections on animal immune health in UK sheep

In the UK, sheep are exposed to several helminth parasites over the grazing/production season, including the economically important gastrointestinal nematodes (Teladorsagia circumcincta, Haemonchus contortus and Nematodirus battus) and the trematode Fasciola hepatica (liver fluke) resulting in disease that affects feed conversion, animal growth rates, fertility and quality of meat, wool and milk. The causes and consequences of heterogeneity in parasite infection and transmission potential

Research Group: Institute of Ecology & Evolution
Summary. Despite on-going concerns about emerging disease threats, we don’t understand what factors drive heterogeneities in parasite burdens, disease, or how to control infections in variable host populations. Read more

NERC E4 It’s about time! Ecology and evolution of circadian and seasonal rhythms in host-parasite interactions

Research Group: Institute of Ecology & Evolution
Summary. In adverse circumstances – such as infections and resource limitation - daily rhythms are often disrupted. The project will investigate to what degree this an adaptive (fitness maximising) strategy. Read more

Research Group: Institute of Ecology & Evolution
Summary. Despite on-going concerns about emerging disease threats, we don’t understand what factors drive heterogeneities in parasite burdens, disease, or how to control infections in variable host populations. Read more
