Optical Physics (bio) PhD Projects, Programmes & Scholarships

We have 14 Optical Physics (bio) PhD Projects, Programmes & Scholarships

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) - Multiplexed fluorescent biosensors to profile infectious diseases (Bio-Techne and University of Edinburgh)

Research Group: CDT in Applied Photonics
We will build a novel sensing toolbox alongside suitable analytical tools to image biomarkers of cell function in real time. We will prepare a new platform of multiplexed photonic biosensors that will be able to image pathogens (bacteria, virus) in infection models of increasing complexity. Read more

Laser-based fabrication of medical diagnostic devices in paper

The focus of our group’s research is the development of user-friendly sensors or devices for affordable and rapid clinical diagnostic testing at the point-of-care (POC) of a patient, i.e., at their hospital bedside or in a care/nursing home, or in ambulance or at home. Read more

Doctor of Engineering (EngD) - uLED-based lab-on-chip platform (Fraunhofer and University of Strathclyde)

Research Group: CDT in Applied Photonics
Detection and identification of various analytes is crucial in applications spanning through bio-medicine, defence and security, environmental monitoring and various others. Read more

Fully Funded PhD Scholarship in Polarised Fluorescence based Downstream Analytics, NBL-1

Application(s) are invited from suitably qualified candidates for full-time funded PhD scholarship(s) starting in February 2024 affiliated to the Nanoscale Biophotonics Laboratory in the Discipline of Physics (School of Natural Sciences) at the University of Galway. Read more
