SolarBioChip: development of a solar bio-battery for printed bioelectronics
  Prof M Shaffer
Applications accepted all year round
Funded by the Leverhulme Doctoral Scholarship Programme in Cellular Bionics – 3 year PhD studentships. Supervisors. Prof Milo Shaffer | Prof Peter Nixon | Prof Klaus Hellgardt.
Iontophoresis to deliver corticosteroids across buccal mucosal using hydrogel as delivery systems
  Prof M Patel, Dr E Hagi-Pavli
Applications accepted all year round
Background. Topical delivery of drugs to treat oral mucosal disease is often challenging. This is due to, for example, the saliva washing therapeutic agents away into the gastrointestinal system, the movement of oral structures during mastication and the presence of keratinized oral mucosal surfaces.
Development of low molecular weight organogelators
  Dr J Bear
Applications accepted all year round
Low Molecular Weight Organogelators (LMWOs) are small molecules, which are able to gel organic species through intermolecular supra-assembly.[1-4] This property makes them very useful for oil spill remediation and clean-up, as you can apply the LMWO to floating oil slicks; gel the oil and scoop it out of the water.
  Synthesis of biologically active molecules
  Dr S Wren
Applications accepted all year round
This exciting project comprises two parts. (i) Development of novel organic methodology using indium;. (ii) Application of the new method to the synthesis of biologically active molecules, for example (±)-deethylibophyllidine.1.
Synthesis and Anti-Cancer Evaluation of New Heterocyclic Quinones
Prof F Aldabbagh, Dr N Hill
Applications accepted all year round
The group has published on small molecules with specificity towards hypoxic cells associated with solid tumours, reductase enzymes over-expressed in cancer, as well as, aziridines that induce hypersensitivity from Fanconi anaemia cells and those carrying mutations in the BRCA (Breast Cancer Susceptibility) genes.
Synthesis and Properties of Novel thermoresponsive polymers for water purification
Dr S Barton, Dr J Barker
Applications accepted all year round
Water is one of the basic necessities required for the sustenance and continuation of life. It is therefore important that supply of good quality water should be available for various activities.
