12 Fully Funded Positions at University of Edinburgh and University of Glasgow

Scotland’s largest research-intensive institutions – The University of Edinburgh and the University of Glasgow are looking for 12 bright minds to help make the world a better place.

These 12 PhD posts are fully funded four-year programmes to start in September 2019 for passionate PhD potential students from the UK or EU who are looking for exciting, challenging research opportunities in three areas.

Research Opportunities & Supervisors

One Health – which will focus on improving the wellbeing of people and animals and how this is connected to their environment. Your supervisors will be Ross Fitzgerald, the University of Edinburgh and Daniel Haydon, University of Glasgow.

Criminology – which will seek to better understand the causes of inequalities, deprivation and marginalisation in society. Your supervisors will be Susan McVie, The University of Edinburgh and Michele Burman, University of Glasgow.

Future Cities – which will consider how new technologies and data might address the economic, social and environmental challenges that urban centres face. Your supervisors will be Gordon Masterton, the University of Edinburgh and Chris Pearce, the University of Glasgow.

Topics covered reflect the research strengths of the two universities and will focus on health, criminology and efforts to ensure that cities of the future prosper economically and culturally.

You will spend up to 12 months carrying out a minimum of 2 taster projects (one at each university) before selecting your main PhD project. You will also participate in a residential symposium during your first year.

Fully funded opportunities (4 years stipend at UKRI rates (estimated to be in the region of £15,000 for 2019/20)

  • Plus annual research support budget of £2,000 & Travel support costs of £1,000
  • Applicable to students from the UK, EU and international. International students should note that the difference between Home/EU fees and international fees will be covered by the student.
