4 Year PhD Programme in Molecular Cell Biology

Applications are invited for places on the PhD Programme in Molecular Cell Biology at the LMCB. The Laboratory for Molecular Cell Biology (LMCB) is an MRC-funded institute dedicated to research aimed at understanding the fundamental basis of cell behaviour relevant to human disease.

We provide a course specifically designed to offer a broad training in cellular and molecular aspects of biomedical science, as well as an opportunity to carry out cutting-edge research in an internationally competitive environment.

In the first year, students rotate through three laboratories of their choice, selected from projects offered by the LMCB laboratories. One laboratory is subsequently chosen for their three-year thesis project. Students also have the opportunity of a fourth rotation in a laboratory at the University of California San Francisco or Hokkaido University, Japan. The first year of the Programme also includes weekly tutorials run by experts in various fields of cell and molecular biology, as well as discussion sessions and debates on wider issues in science. This crucial first year allows students to broaden their understanding of biomedical science and, most importantly, to sample different laboratories in order to make an informed choice of thesis area and mentor.

Successful candidates receive a stipend of £20,000 per year. For further details about the course, to determine whether you are eligible for a studentship and for details on how to apply see the LMCB webpage.

Any queries please contact Lucy Newman.

The closing date is Monday 6th January 2020. Interviews will be held in late January.
