80+ funding opportunities now available

The University of Surrey has earned a strong reputation for ground-breaking research in the areas of health, medicine, space, environment and mobile communications. It is currently home to over 1,000 postgraduate researchers, and nearly 450 supervisors, working together across 170+ research areas.

Surrey is ranked 7th in the UK for doctoral researcher experience, received a Gold award in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), and boasts a graduate employment rate of 95 per cent over the past five years.

Committed to recruiting and supporting talented doctoral researchers, we are delighted to be able to offer over 80 funding opportunities for 2019 across a range of disciplines, including a new joint/dual degree with the University of Wollongong in Australia.

Awards that are available include:

NEW: International joint/dual degree in the UK and Australia

The Universities of Surrey and Wollongong are delighted to offer outstanding prospective students the opportunity of a joint/dual PhD degree from both Wollongong and Surrey.

Working with world-class academics, the successful applicants will gain international experience, carrying out world-leading research in both the UK and Australia.

There are three studentships available starting in October 2019 in Surrey and the spring session in Wollongong on a full time basis. They offer a generous full fee waiver and a £15,000 stipend/$AU27,596 for a duration of 3 years.

Doctoral College Studentship Award

Surrey’s Doctoral College is pleased to be awarding over 25 fully funded studentships to outstanding home and EU PhD candidates across a range of disciplines.

These studentships are now available to students starting in October 2019. They offer a generous full fee waiver, £15,000 stipend, a Research Training Support Grant of £500, and financial support for research materials and consumables (if successfully applied for) up to the value of £1,000.

Vice-Chancellor’s Studentship Award

Surrey’s Doctoral College is pleased to be awarding fully funded studentships to outstanding international PhD candidates in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences and Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences.

These studentships are now available to students starting in October 2019. They offer a generous full international fee waiver, £15,000 stipend, a Research Training Support Grant of £1,000, and financial support for research materials and consumables (if successfully applied for) up to the value of £2,000.

International Fee Scholarship

We are offering over 40 PhD Fee Scholarships to support talented international doctoral researchers. These awards consist of a scholarship to cover the difference between international and UK/EU tuition fees or a 25% fee discount.

All studentships will be awarded on the basis of the academic excellence of both the candidate and the research proposal. This is an extremely competitive process and only very high calibre candidates will be successful.
