Accountable, Responsible and Transparent AI at the University of Bath

Accountable, Responsible and Transparent AI at the University of Bath

The UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in Accountable, Responsible and Transparent AI (ART-AI) at the University of Bath trains "specialists with perspectives". Our PhD students develop AI skills, and a broader understanding of the engineering applications of AI and the ethical, policy and socio-economic consequences of intelligent technologies. Applicants can apply for one of our advertised projects or suggest a research project of their own from among our key themes.

Key themes of the programme include:

  • transparency and intelligibility of AI
  • risk and decision making with AI
  • safety and trust in human-machine systems
  • policy-making with and for AI
  • innovation in data-driven and classical AI
  • engineering applications of AI

As part of your training you may work with partners from companies, government agencies, non-governmental organisations, and internationally leading universities. You will also be able to experience different research environments on placement and go on research visits.

Projects can be based in AI and computer science, engineering and technology, and humanities and social sciences. You will be able to audit masters level units in any or all of these disciplines and will graduate with a PhD in your home discipline.
