Biomedical Science, Bioinformatics & Data Analysis PhD Programme

Overview

We are looking to recruit up to 6 outstanding science graduates to a 4-year (1+3 MRes-PhD) programme or a 0+3.5 year PhD programme (based on applicants CV and experience) in Biomedical Science, Bioinformatics & Data Analysis Programme to work on internationally-competitive research projects, equipping them to exploit excellence in basic research for improving the health of local and national patient populations; this call is for applications for PhD studentships for September 2019 entry. To facilitate training in Biomedical Informatics, students will benefit from dual supervision from both basic and clinician scientists.

We understand that outstanding students come from a range of backgrounds; that’s why we offer a dual PhD structure, with both a PhD-only and MRes/PhD pathway. The MRes consists of three rotations through a choice of project areas as well as workshops providing training and development in research skills.

BRC studentships offer a generous stipend of £20,191 per annum for the 2019/20 academic year; costs for MRes and PhD fees are covered by the BRC as well as funds for research project support.

Criteria

Candidates must possess, or be expected to achieve a 1st or upper 2nd class degree in a relevant subject including the biosciences, chemistry, physics, computer science or mathematics, and be enthusiastic about combining their expertise with other disciplines in the field of healthcare. The full fellowship is open to EU/Home and overseas students. Tuition fees are included.

Important dates: the closing date for applications under this scheme is 5pm Tuesday 9th April. Interviews for shortlisted candidates has been provisionally scheduled for 9th May 2019. Successful applicants are expected to take up their studentships in September 2019.
