School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health, University of Glasgow

This award is led by Professor Eleanor Davies within the School of Cardiovascular & Metabolic Health (SCMH), which is a BHF Centre of Research Excellence.

Our research focuses on:

Cardiac Disease
Vascular Biology
Cardiometabolic Disease

Each of these themes contains strategically linked groups of leading, internationally-respected academics who provide the highest quality supervision to students. Research links exist between staff in the cardiovascular groups and those in other Schools (Cancer Sciences; Infection & Immunity; Health and Wellbeing; Molecular Biosciences; Psychology & Neuroscience) within the College, facilitating cross-School collaborations.

As a BHF Centre of Excellence, our school provides the highest quality training in cardiovascular research, at the basic-science, translational and clinical levels.

The programme comprises an intensive first year of training in research techniques and theory plus three research placements culminating in the award of an MRes. This is followed by a three year PhD research project. Scholarships are available to outstanding students from broad ranging disciplines.

Stipend rates start at £19,919 per annum.
