Cancer Research UK City of London (CoL) Centre

Cancer Research UK City of London (CoL) Centre clinical PhD training programme

The Cancer Research UK City of London (CoL) Centre collaborative PhD training programme is looking for exceptional clinical trainees to carry out multi-disciplinary research projects with a focus on cancer biotherapeutics. The Centre brings together researchers from the CRUK centres based at the Francis Crick Institute, UCL, Barts / Queen Mary University of London and King’s College London with the aim to generate innovative biological therapies, diagnostics and stratification strategies working from an evolutionary and immunological perspective.

Clinical research training fellows (CRTFs) will follow a three-year version of the CRUK CoL PhD training programme, which will provide a firm foundation for clinicians with a future academic career path in mind. Trainees will benefit from multi-disciplinary training, cross-institutional research placements, cohort-building activities and a broad range of scientific and transferable skills training. In addition, they will participate in the Centre’s networking workshops and conferences. Fellows will be based in their primary supervisor’s research group, receiving additional advice and guidance from a secondary supervisor (based at one of the Centre’s other institutions) and a thesis committee. Each trainee will work with their supervisors to develop a customised training plan, tailored to the trainee’s background and project requirements, that includes cross-disciplinary skills training and may include short research placements with other groups in the centre. We are looking for talented and motivated clinicians who are passionate about research, have a strong academic track record and hold full GMC registration or equivalent. These are full-time research positions with limited participation in clinical activities. They are fully funded for three years, and PhD registration will be at the Primary Supervisor’s university. Successful candidates will receive a salary commensurate with their current experience, paid on the clinical academic scale.
