The innovative and exciting new Department of Electronic Engineering at Royal Holloway links excellent engineering with the ingenious application of creativity as the starting point for invention. We offer opportunities for cutting-edge research in fields including Microwave Photonics and Sensors, Nanotechnology, Voice, Music and Biosignal technologies, and Power systems.
The Department offers a range of postgraduate study opportunities around current and emerging electronic engineering trends. Research within the Department is structured into four main groups:
Applications are invited for two PhD studentships in cutting-edge research projects provided in the following departmental areas of research, starting in September 2020. Applicants are asked to identify and select a specific research project from the project list under the Current Department Funded PhD Opportunities. The selected project with the title and the reference number should be stated clearly in the application form.
Each studentship includes a stipend of £17,285 plus fees (at Home/EU rates) for three years. Overseas applicants are welcome to apply but would be required to have other sources to pay the difference between UK and overseas tuition fees. Applicants should ideally hold, or be predicted to achieve, an undergraduate degree or equivalent in Science/Engineering (minimum requirement: 2.1). An MSc in relevant disciplines is desirable but not essential.
The Department resides in the purpose-designed brand-new Shilling Building situated on the beautiful Royal Holloway Egham campus close to London. We complement our diverse research portfolio with its own unique areas of research to build world-class centres of expertise in new research areas of activity.
Informal enquiries about the research projects and funds should be directed to the appropriate supervisor for each project.
