The vision of the Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences (JCC) is to become a centre of excellence in Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences education and research, and one of the twenty leading veterinary schools in the world within the next twenty years. Our mission is to establish, in partnership with Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine, a world-class veterinary programme to train high-calibre veterinarians and biomedical and life sciences professionals who can respond to the grand challenges and societal needs of our time. Our overall goal is to improve the quality of life and the health of humans, animals and the environment under the One Health paradigm, and to ensure sustainable food production through safeguarding animal welfare.

The Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health within the JCC was established in July 2017 with the following mission:

• to achieve and sustain excellence in teaching and research in veterinary studies through advancing the understanding of the interconnectivity of animal and human health;
• to make a significant contribution to Hong Kong as a regional hub for One Health education, through the provision of high quality education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
• to train veterinary professionals in the latest developments in their chosen fields and in One Health;
• to undertake state-of-the-art research in addressing emerging problems in public health and animal health related issues, in meeting societal needs locally, regionally and internationally through partnership and strengthening links with industry, business, commerce and other institutions.

Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme

The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS), established by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, aims to attract the best and brightest students from across the globe to pursue their PhD studies in Hong Kong universities. Interested candidates are advised to contact potential PhD supervisors 6-8 weeks before the December 1^st, 2021 deadline.

You will need (1) a CV, (2) a Personal Statement, introducing yourself and outlining your motivation for PhD research, and (3) a transcript of any qualifying degrees and grades (completed and/or underway).

Applications accepted all year round, but the deadline for some Scholarships is December 1^st each year. You are encouraged to contact specific academic supervisors approximately six weeks before any deadline.
