The College of Engineering and Physical Sciences at Aston University offers fully funded PhD studentships for the Academic Year 2024-25 across over 70 projects.

We seek high calibre PhD candidates who will carry out research making a significant contribution to knowledge in a broad portfolio of research areas across the College’s 3 Research Institutes and Schools.

The Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies (AIPT) tackles some of the most challenging fundamental and applied scientific problems in the world of photonics.

The Energy and Bioproducts Research Institute (EBRI) combines expertise in thermochemical, biological and catalytic conversion of biomass to develop sustainable energy systems and bioproducts from sustainable resources.

The newly formed Aston Digital Futures Institute (ADFI) consists of world-renowned academics whose research has pushed the state of the art in AI-health, gamification and visual media technologies.

Funding

Engineering and Physical Sciences College PhD studentships include a maintenance allowance (£18,622 full time equivalent in 2023/24) and tuition fees (Home or Overseas) for 3 years.

When should I apply?

Potential students may apply from now until 23rd Feb-2024. Incomplete applications by the deadline date or applications received after that time will not be considered for the studentship.

What happens next

Applications received by 23rd Feb-2024 will be referred by Graduate School PGR Admissions to the potential Supervisors. Potential candidate interviews will be either in-person or online.

Applicants can expect to be informed about the outcome of their applications by April 2024.
