Our studentship awards aim to identify the best projects and recruit the best students to maintain the pipeline of the vibrant Engineering and Physical Sciences College research community. We aim to attract high calibre PhD candidates who will carry out postgraduate doctoral research that makes a significant contribution to research and knowledge in the relevant discipline.
The College of Engineering and Physical Sciences at Aston University has funding available for fully funded PhD studentships for the Academic Year 2023-24 from EPSRC DTP and College funds the possibility to start in April/July 2023 if there are suitable candidates.
We would particularly like to encourage applications from women seeking to progress their academic careers. Funding
Engineering and Physical Sciences College PhD studentships include a maintenance allowance (£17,668 full time equivalent in 2022/23) and Home or Overseas tuition fees for 3 years.

Choose the project that you would like to apply for and contact the lead supervisor for those that particularly interest you. They can often provide further advice and information about the project.
Details of how to submit your application, and the necessary supporting documents can be found here. Once you have contacted a supervisor, please follow the instructions on How to Apply to submit an application. Together with the supporting documents (here), you must include an Overview of the Research topic you are interested applying for. Incomplete applications by the deadline date will not be accepted for the competition.
When should I apply?
Potential students may apply from now until the 31st Jan 2023. Although we encourage any potential candidates to apply as soon as possible, incomplete applications will not be considered for the studentship and the Aston Graduate School will not pursue applications submitted with missing documents. Similarly, applications received after the closing date will not be considered for the studentship.
Please notice Aston University will be closed from 23rd December 2022 to 3rd January 2023 and queries will not be dealt with during this time.
What happens next
Applications received by 31st January 2023 will be referred by Graduate School PGR Admissions to the potential Supervisors. Potential candidate interviews will be either in-person or online, and will be conducted by at least 3 members of staff (Supervisor, Associate Supervisor and an independent senior member of staff).
Applicants can expect to be informed about the primary stage by April 2023.
