EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Resilient Decarbonised Fuel Energy Systems

EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Resilient Decarbonised Fuel Energy Systems

Would you like to study for a doctorate and also help make the world’s energy supplies cleaner, cheaper and more reliable?

Re-inventing the Energy World.

The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Resilient Decarbonised Fuel Energy Systems aims to bring together the expertise of the Universities of Nottingham, Sheffield and Cardiff, industrial sponsors and cohorts of doctoral students in to tackle major challenges facing industry and society. Could this be you?

Our goal

Our goal is to support major reductions in society’s carbon footprint by finding radically different ways to operate our existing energy systems. We need to reduce or eliminate their carbon dioxide emissions to address climate change concerns and eliminate use of fossil fuels. Would you like to support our goal?

Engineering Doctorate Studentships

We welcome applications from graduates in relevant STEM or engineering disciplines and you will use your existing skills (and others that the degree will give you) to help us solve the problems facing our energy systems. You should have a first-class or upper second-class honours and/or a Masters degree We value the varied perspectives and experiences that a diverse cohort of students can bring to the programme. We nurture a culture in which everyone feels respected, comfortable, valued, and included.

Some subjects are suitable to candidates with a social sciences background.

The Doctoral training provides:

  • An in-depth four-year training programme with the ability to expand your current skillset
  • Interdisciplinary projects which draw on a wide range of skills from across STEM and engineering subjects
  • Extensive research time in close collaboration with industry
  • An advanced skillset which will prepare you for work in multiple roles in industry or academia
  • Studentships which cover tuition fees, a tax-free stipend and £6,000 each year for consumables and travel
  • A stipend enhancement of £3,750 per year.

Industrial Involvement

The Centre is designed to be industrially focussed. We ensure that all the projects are targeted at meeting specific current and future needs of our partners. We work with numerous companies which cover a broad range of energy-intensive industries. You will spend time working closely with one or more industrial sponsors either pursuing a research project based at one of our industrial supporters, or in a university environment with a close relationship with industry:

  • The Centre has excellent relationships with more than twenty industrial and regulatory partners.
  • Projects will match both the interests of the researcher and external partner.
  • Successful candidates will work with academics and industry partner(s) to shape the exact scope of each doctorate.

How do I Apply?
