CDT in Science and Applications of Graphene and Related Nanomaterials (Graphene NOWANO)

Fully Funded 4-year PhD studentships at the University of Manchester

Applications are invited for fully funded 4-year PhD studentships at the University of Manchester to start in September 2024

Studentships are available in the following research areas:

  1. Materials discovery for quantum electronics; novel heterostructures, twistronics, 2D magnets and superconductors.
  2. 2D materials and heterostructures for adaptive and energy-efficient optoelectronics and thermal management.
  3. 2D materials, membranes and separators for energy-efficient green hydrogen technologies (solar water splitting, fuel cells, methane-to-hydrogen conversion).
  4. Next generation filtration and separation membranes for nanofluidics and environmentally-friendly technologies, e.g., water purification, biofiltration applications, etc.
  5. 2D material-enhanced composites and protective coatings.
  6. Physico-chemical processes under strong confinement; energy storage, intercalation; innovative synthesis and growth of 2D materials.

Funding Information

Fully funded studentships are available to Home Students and a small number of studentships can be awarded to EU/overseas students. International students are welcome to apply if in receipt of external or self-funding and those with proven academic excellence and research potential may be eligible for University of Manchester scholarships (President’s scholarships, Dean’s scholarships).

Who we are looking for:

We welcome applications from graduates with an excellent degree (first or high upper second) or an equivalent international qualification in science (physics, chemistry, materials science) or engineering. Applicants should be enthusiastic and looking for a challenging, interdisciplinary research training environment.

How to apply:

If you are interested in applying, please email: graphene-nownano@manchester.ac.uk for further instructions indicating two research areas of interest from the above list in order of preference.

Early applications are strongly encouraged.
